Lean Mean Green Fighting Machine

NOW
You come to a point in your life where you could go two ways. I'm at that point of no return. I could either give up and just keep on eating my chocolate chip cookies and chocolate bars or get mean and mad and fight the urge to nibble on the good stuff.
If I nibble on the good stuff I'll just keep getting fatter or I could get mean and mad and resist that chocolate, get up at 4:30 and hit the gym and eat healthy. At my age it gets harder and harder to keep it off, and I seem to get lazier and lazier and not want to put my body through any more pain. But my son Jon came over tonight and said he's going to loose 30 lbs. My eyes perked up and I wanted to loose 30 lbs with him. But then I asked him how he was going to do that. He said ride his bike 2 hours a day, swim for an hour and go to the gym for an hour all in the same day. Well I balked at all his suggestions and said I would try and not eat the good stuff and maybe tomorrow I'll hit the gym for an hour. Well it's not going to happen. I need to get MEAN and MAD at myself and
change my attitude. So if any of my friends out there who take me to lunch or have chocolate cake at Young Womens activities, please help me to resist the good stuff. And I really need the help. Oh, and since I haven't been to the gym for so long and am overweight I pulled my back out last week. Another reason to keep working out and loose the weight. Wish me luck!

Books

Not Entirely British http://www.annebradshaw.blogspot.comThis is my first time entering a give-away contest found on Anne Bradshaws great blog. Thanks Diane for the info, (she is a secret blog hopper). Anyway she's giving away a CD set on "The Arthurian Omen" by G. G. Vandagriff. Since I just joined a book club, (it's probably the only way I'll read a book) I thought it would be fun to join this contest.
Oh and by the way the next book we are reading in the book club is called "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. It will be held at my house on February 17 if anyone is interested in coming. I thought it would be a good book to read since it's only 3 days after Valentines. We just finished discussing the book "Coming of Age in Mississippi" by Anne Moody.

Happy Birthday Rick with a Picnic in the Park

January 19th is the day Rick was born into this world one month after me or he would say one year after me. He is always reminding me I'm a year older but we're just a month apart. (Just different years). Are you thoroughly confused or do I need to say it over one more time....January 19th is also the day Rick proposed to me, aah so sentimental. I love you Rick. I fell totally in love with Rick when we were riding bikes down Provo canyon and I looked back and saw his beautiful hair blowing in the wind, (nobody wore helmets back then), and he still has that beautiful hair. I would still love him if he lost his hair. Now isn't that a coincidence that bicycles are such a big part of our lives still. What I also love about Rick is his sense of humor, he loves to make people laugh and have a good time. Especially in dull boring church meetings. What I also love about Rick is that he is a neat nick. I NEVER have to pick up after him unlike all my children. He also can clean a kitchen up better than I can or anybody else by that matter. What I love about Rick is that he can fix anything with wheels on them, cars, bikes, motorcycles etc. He always gives me a kiss and hug before he goes to work which I love and he always loves to take me out on a date even after 30 years of marriage. He is my best friend and I love him so much. We had a fun little Birthday picnic on Saturday at Candlelight park. Even though he could only walk on crutches he still made the best of it and enjoyed holding his grandbaby Carson. The newest pride and joy of his life. He is a wonderful father and grandfather and had always upheld his church callings. He's worked in many Bishoprics, High Councils, Young Men callings, served a mission in Argentina, helped all his boys get their eagles and go on missions and now is in the Singles Ward Bishopric. He is always full of energy and has run in marathons, triathalons, 100 mile bike races. He is a real estate broker and has run his own commercial real estate company, S-G Mgt. for 25 years. He will do anything for anybody. I am so proud to call him my husband. Your the best! Happy Birthday!

Mel's Visit

Been 6 years since my brother has come to visit me from Utah. We had a really nice reunion. My parents especially enjoyed the visit. We went on a picnic to the Botanical Gardens and saw the beautiful Chihuly glass sculptors on display. They are very unique and interesting along with the cactus. They will be on display till May.

Can't keep him down.

The cast has only been on a week and he's back at motorcycles again. Only it's watching motor cylces at the Supercross at Chase Field in Phoenix. We go every year and an old broken ankle wasn't going to stop him. He was okay until today and then it really started to hurt. We think he's rubbed a blister on his ankle bone, so he's got the power saw and is cutting a hole out of the cast so it won't rub anymore. I took a picture of it but I won't go in there and check to see if he's severed off a limb. It sounds like a dentist office in there. But Supercross was fun, just Kenzie, Rick and I went. For the 3 of us was just $40.00 and we sat in the handicap section. We borrowed the Goodman's wheelchair and got him in perfectly and sat on the lower level right in front of the 3 big whoops. Parking was close since we have a handicap sticker from my parents. James Stewart "Bubba" won again and the place was packed. The score to the Cardinals football game was constantly up and they ended up winning so we didn't miss anything. They will be going to the playoffs for the Super bowl. (First time ever). Rick's been at work every day this week and drives himself. The sprained ankle is doing better if he wears his foot brace. He just has to keep his feet up so the swelling doesn't get too bad. He did not go to church this week again, he was hoping to go today but the irritation was bad. Next week we have a general authority coming to talk to our stake for a special stake conference. I hear Bednar and another G.A. is coming down. I am really looking forward to that. My son Jon moved closer to our house this past week. I walked to it from our house and it took me 40 minutes. And then I walked back. I was wearing a pink sweat suit and a pink baseball cap. I got so many waves from women driving by in there cars. I'm thinking they thought I was a breast cancer survivor or something like that, because I've never had so many people waving to me. It felt really good. Like a celebrity. By the way Rick did not sever off a leg and he feels much better with the hole in his cast.

7 random things

Diane tagged me on the 7 random things about me and I'm dragging my feet. So finally here goes.

1. I don't like talking about myself, except in blogging, but that's just things that are happening in my life.
2. I can't tell a joke. I always forget the punch line.
3. My favorite thing to do is laugh. That's why I married Rick.
4. My favorite breakfast is chocolate.
5. I have an internal clock in my head and can tell myself to wake up at a certain time
and I just pop up awake. Usually at 4:30 a.m. ugh.
6. I can't think about horses or I'll cry. I want one so bad.
7. I use to be the fastest running kid anywhere up until High School and then something happened and I slowed way down.
(Now that wasn't too hard.) So Ivette and Lachelle I'm now tagging you.

Starting the year out with a break at the dunes

It was fun while it lasted. 2009 came with a bang!! This was our second time in a row that we rode our quads down at the sand dunes in Yuma at the start of the year. We spent New Years Eve at a ice skating arena chaperoning the Young Men and Young Women from our two wards. We had rented out the whole skating arena. It was alot of fun and played games afterwards at Louisa's house till the fireworks began. We got to bed about 1:30 a.m. and had to get up at 4:30 a.m. to drive 4 hours to get to the dunes. We had a great day riding the sand dunes with our friends in the ward, the Horne's. At night they had a warm bonfire going and watched a fun little video. We rented a room in town which was nice to get a shower and bed down to a nice soft bed. Which is always welcome after playing in the sand all day. The weather conditions were perfect this year and the crowd at the dunes was minimal compared to years past. We got up and ate a continental breakfast at the Fairfield in Yuma where we were staying. They had the greatest breakfast, waffles, eggs, fruit etc. and all included in the price of the hotel. We will definitely make that our destination spot next time. We got back out to the dunes by 9 a.m. and were out on our quads by 10:00. Kenzie and I were riding in the Horne's sandrail which was totally a kick in the pants. Rick was on his motorcycle with his paddle tires on for better traction. We were having such a great time with everybody following along flying up and down and around the dunes. We were headed out to the main highway to where they call Gordon's Well and they have a bunch of vendors selling t-shirts and what nots. One of the quads dropped it's chain and we all stopped to see how to fix it. It was fixable but needed some tools. Rick and Brenton decided they would go back to camp and get the proper tools and come back and fix it. I thought it would be a good idea to time them and have everyone make predictions on how long it would take them to get back. Well it took about 30 minutes for them to come back, alot longer than we predicted. Jackson was the closest at 27 minutes and got a candy bar for it. Rick was on my quad and not the motorcycle and we knew something was up. He said it was pretty bad and that he hurt both ankles from hitting an unexpected jump and coming down on his feet quite hard. He was in big motorcycle boots and was gingerly walking around but was able to fix the quads chain with every one's help. He said he would keep riding and we got to the vendors. Rick by this time was in a lot of pain and decided to head on back to camp while we shopped. When we got back to camp Rick had most of the quads loaded up on the trailer, which was quite an undertaking in his condition. We said our goodbyes and headed home. He drove past Yuma and then I took over because he was in so much pain. We headed straight to the hospital in Mesa and he waited 2 hours in the ER till they had a room. I went home with the trailer and my neighbors helped me park it in the backyard and I got Kenzie a pizza and headed on down to the hospital. We found out he broke his left ankle (a clean break) and his right ankle was sprained. So they put a splint on the break and wrapped the other ankle with an ace bandage. Got some pain killers on the way home at Walgreens and then my wonderful neighbors the Jones' and Rawlins had crutches and a wheel chair waiting for him and a blessing. DeRay helped him get back into the house with a wheelchair and he spent the night in our lazyboy chair with his feet propped up. He's been there ever since. It's been over 24 hours and the pain is getting a little more bearable. And he is a very good patient. Always appreciative and never complaining. I don't think this will keep him down long. But it's just a little set back that you just have to deal with.
